DNS checks & DMARC monitoring

View in ChatGPT directory

Find out why email from your domain lands in spam, check whether a DNS change has reached resolvers in six locations, and keep watch on your domain's email, DNS and website. Ask in plain words and get a clear answer, with the exact record to publish when a fix needs one.

With DNS Doctor you can:

  • Check email authentication: diagnose SPF, DKIM and DMARC, mail routing (MX), blocklists, domain and SSL certificate expiry, and which Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and Apple sender requirements your DNS meets.
  • Check a DNS change: read A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records from the domain's own nameservers with a plain done, wait or edit answer, and see whether the change has reached resolvers in six locations on four continents.
  • Test a real email: send one message to a single-use address and see how it authenticated, with a score out of 10, a per-provider estimate of acceptance and, when available, of inbox placement.
  • Look up a domain: registrar, expiry, nameservers and locks, reverse DNS for a mail server, SPF lookup count and the third-party includes your SPF trusts.
  • Check whether your domain meets each mailbox provider's requirements for showing its logo in the inbox (BIMI), and which look-alike names close to your domain resolve, stated as facts and never labelled malicious.
  • Move DMARC to enforcement safely: DMARC records are generated and validated by a deterministic engine that follows the RFCs. The AI writes the explanation, never the record.

Monitor the domains you verify by connecting a DNS Doctor account:

  • Website uptime checked from five locations on four continents (US West, US East, Brazil, South Africa, Germany), with an email when the site goes down.
  • DMARC aggregate reports read for you, alerts on new senders, record changes, expiry, blacklisting and registrar or nameserver changes.
  • When the report evidence says it is safe to move DMARC from none to quarantine and then to reject, and what is still blocking it.
  • From ChatGPT: list your domains with their next step, add a domain, check its ownership record, read the alerts, and review watched look-alike names with their threat scores.

SPF is diagnosed but never rewritten, because a changed SPF record can silently cut off a real sender. ChatGPT never changes your DNS: you publish the records yourself.

Example prompts

  • “Mail from my domain lands in spam. Check its SPF, DKIM and DMARC.”
  • “Give me an address for a test email, then check its authentication and delivery risks.”
  • “I changed a DNS record. Check whether it is correct and has propagated.”

Skills

  • dns-doctor

Use when the user wants to look up DNS records, verify a DNS change, check propagation across regions, read domain registration or expiry, or diagnose SPF, DKIM, DMARC and email deliverability problems. Also covers provider-issued email DNS verification, reverse DNS, blacklists, parked-domain hardening, BIMI logo setup and linked-account monitoring. Returns observed DNS evidence and engine-validated fix records; never invents a record.

  • fix-dmarc

Use when the user wants to fix, add, tighten or move up their DMARC record, asks how to get from p=none to quarantine or reject, or why DMARC fails. Scans the domain with DNS Doctor, gets the next validated DMARC record from build_dmarc_upgrade, has the user publish it, then re-checks it. Relays the engine's reason when there is no record; never composes one.

  • setup

First-run setup for DNS Doctor. Runs once when the user installs the plugin. Asks which domain they manage, scans its email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and DNS with the DNS Doctor tools, explains what is failing first, gives the exact fix record, and, only for a domain the user says they own, offers DMARC monitoring that starts with one DNS record. Every reply ends on the next concrete step.

  • verify-change

Use when the user has just published or edited a DNS record (DMARC, SPF, DKIM, MX, TXT, CNAME, A) and asks whether it worked, landed, is live or has propagated. Reads the record from the domain's own nameservers with DNS Doctor, then checks propagation from six vantage points, and says when to look again after the TTL. Observation only; never composes a record.
